I was born and lived in Evington throughout my childhood. I understand Evington Park House was built for the Burnaby family in 1836. The house and estate that surrounds the building was eventually bequeathed to the City of Leicester in 1946.

There is a Mulberry tree still standing and in fine fettle to the rear of the property which was planted in 1836.

It is indeed a magnificent building.

we are hoping to run a course/sessions about local history ;having guest speakers;your memories of childhood in Evington would be very welcome ;

some of the stories we've had so far are quite modern ..1 man told how he was DNA tested when all men of close villages were tested to be eliminated from the murder of 2 girls ..it was Colin Pitchfork in 1971 + he got a friend to take the DNA test for him

 Colonel  john Dick Burnaby built house in 1836 as a retirement home for himself + unmarried dughters

 it has a vibrant community now ..they are running a cafe open to dogs on a saturdays + a cycle group.

I'm actually from Oadby which is a 3 mile wlk across the arbotoream .I try + support the projects   and they have booked me as a comedian     but am quite a busy person
