Hello all nice people!

I need to get sight of the actual parish register for St Mary, Dennington, Suffolk.

In particular, a baptism for my ancestor, James James, on 10 May 1829.

The indexes show the parents as "Louisa" but I believe (from records floating around) that there is further information, particularly about who Louisa was, and I cannot find out the source.

Can anyone help?

Or point me in the right direction?

Many thanks.

Your profile doesn't say where you are.

If you can get to the Suffolk Record Office in Ipswich you should be able to view the PR there.

The Suffolk baptism index says he was illegitimate.

Somebody on Ancestry seems to think Louisa's surname was Hotham. And I'm not sure why.

Double check with the SRO in Ipswich to make sure they have the Parish Register, some Suffolk  parishes are still using the parish register that has very old events recorded in them, although I would have thought this one would be lodged with the SRP by now  ;)

SM ...

Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

This is a longshot, a Louisa James married a Robert Nunn in Hoo in 1836. In 1841 and 51, the family are in Charsfield. Louisa's birthplace given as Saxtead.

The Society of Genealogists have microfiche copies of the actual parish registers for Dennington. They are in London and if you are not a member you can buy a day ticket for

Non-members may use the library on payment of a search fee as follows:

2 hours £5
4 hours £10
Full day (including Thursday until 8pm) £18

(Full membership for a year is £50/£53 plus one off joining fee of £10)

If you don't want to pay that then the LDS (familysearch) have a manuscript copy of the original register at Kew but that probably won't meet your needs as its a manuscript copy not a filmed copy.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
