Shirley Ann HALES, Bushey, died 2006

Hi. 

I am trying to find the maiden name of Shirley Ann Hales who died 6 April 2006 with her funeral held at Sacred Heart Church, Bushey.  Her birth date is given as 1934 on FindMyPast and the age given in the newspaper confirms that.

Shirley is listed as the widow of Tony.  Without accessing the details, I have found references for the 2002-03 electoral role for Anthony G Hales in Bushey.  Anthony George Hales died 17 September 2004 at Wellington Hospital leaving wife Shirley and a son.  His age is given as 86 suggesting a birth date of 1918.

From a reference in another person's will the Hales' address in 1998 may have been 130 Merryhill Road, Bushey.

Based on the history of the other people named in the will, it is possible Shirley and Tony's marriage occurred in India but I have not found a record of that or any shipping records that would support that.  I did find a birth record for Anthony George Hales in Calcutta in 1918 which matches the death details above.

I appreciate that Shirley's death certificate would potentially provide the father's surname but she would not that closely related so that purchase is not the highest priority.  I am not certain what other resources might give a clue.

Shirley is the last person named as a beneficiary on a will to be identified and the other beneficiaries appear to be relatives of the deceased or her husband.  Any assistance appreciated.

No it wouldn't - it only shows the maiden surname if the deceased was a married woman

There is a Shirley A M Yates birth registered Dec qtr 1934 in Croydon but no guarantees it's her.  You need the 1981 marriage cert

Thank you - I wasn't looking for a later/second marriage and of course I should have considered that.

It also makes sense in the context of the son being named in Tony's death notice but not in Shirley's as the candidate I had found was too old to be her son.

The 1934 Shirley A Yates parents appear to be Arthur C Bates and Monica A M nee Bissett.

Dad Arthur died on 8th July 1961 and probate was granted to his wife Monica Alice Mary Yates.

Monica died in Northumberland aged 86 in Apr 1990.
