Marriage of Robert Turner & Sarah Fuller
« on: Saturday 27 February 16 16:15 GMT (UK) »
We are researching the Turners of Norfolk and can trace our line back to Jonathan Turner born 1790 in Diss and marrying Sarah Brock in 1811 Forncett and then settling in the Besthorpe area.
We have found Jonathan's birth through Archdeacons Transcripts which gives his parents as Robert Turner and Sarah Fuller but we cannot find a marriage date or a birth for either parent.
Can anyone please help with either the actual information we require or suggest a route by which we may find the missing information.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Gwenda and Arthur Howard

Hi

What about this one

Robert DANIEL Turner married Sarah Fulller 29 Sep 1786, St Mary, Diss.
Both single at time of marriage
Witnesses: Richard Smith and Benjamin Legood

And this site is good for Norfolk records

Hello Clare,Thank you so much for your prompt reply and it's given us a new resource since we had been using the old FreeReg since the new one doesn't allow you to change your options without starting anew. This has given us a new momentum and we've found several possible births for Robert so we must try to tie down which one is his. We are surprised just how many Turners there were in Norfolk at this time.
If you have any further suggestions they would always be welcomed.
Regards   Gwenda and Arthur Howard.

Hi

Here a couple of links to other sources that I use. The first has some Probate records/ Trade Directories

http://www.norfolksources.norfolk.gov.uk/DserveNS/

Familysearch also have MI's online, poor law records, Marriage bonds as well as the Archdeacon Transcripts. It does take a while to get used to though.

Hello Claire (i included),Thank you again for your continued support and for providing the additional sites which may help in any future search. Using the new version of FreeReg we have now identified six possible Roberts and Five possible Sarahs with suitable baptism dates. All we have to do now is sort out the correct ones.
Although we have looked we cannot as yet find your marriage banns or references to Robert Daniel alias Turner.Mind you in communication terms we are probably closer to hammer, chisel and stone tablet than to computers but we do try.Any real progress we'll let you know.
Thanks again,   Gwenda and Arthur.

Hi

I can't see the Banns either, but here is a copy of the marriage register, and it does look like he could have been using an alias. Top right  :)

Dont think the link is working however click on Diss, then Banns and finally 1778-1792, and its page 14 of the book

Hello Claire,Thanks to your links we have found and printed the marriage certificate for Robert and Sarah. Very interested in the alias bit because there is a word there but we cannot be sure that it really says "alias". Trying to think what else it could possibly be because the whole Turner family name comes down from this.At the moment my mum might not have been a Turner at all !!!
Interesting isn't it?
