ISO Elizabeth Gallacher
« on: Tuesday 01 March 16 22:56 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for my Mum's mother, I have her DOB of 23 October 1906 in Duntocher and she died on July 12 1940. Her parents were John Gallacher and Margaret Gallacher (McAllister) of Duntocher, Lizzie had one daughter in 1925 and a second in 1939, I know of no other live births. Lizzie was involved with a Robert Carlton,  the death certificate I have lists her as Lizzie Carlton but they were never married, in fact the copy that I have was amended to show her surname as Gallacher and her true age of 34, Robert Carlton is listed as a witness to the death and as a friend.  I have no idea where she is buried or anything else about her other than she was a domestic servant and had something to do with the Ferry Inn at 1 Clyde in Renfrew.  All my Mum said was that she was the illegitimate daughter of Lizzie Gallacher and that she would come every Wednesday with clothes and money for her parents who were caring for her. I have pictures and info on all of Lizzies siblings but next to nothing on Lizzie, I am hoping that I can find out where is buried, I know it is a needle in a haystack.
Thank you
Aynn

Hi Aynn,

You don't mention where Lizzie died.

Was there an address?

Do you know her religion as this may determine where she is buried but most likely nearest to her usual address at time of death.

Have you found where her parents are buried as she may be in the same plot or at least the same burial ground?

Was she registered as Lizzie or Elizabeth as I don't see her on SP?

When you say Robert Carlton was a "witness" do you mean he registered her death?

She died at 14 Union St. Paisley a Domestic Servant so she is likely at Woodside.  To confirm this email p-c.es@renfrewshire.gov.uk give them the full date, her full name and place of death.  They won't charge you unless your info is non specific so again, be clear and concise in your request.

If she is not there she might lay with her parents or perhaps she was cremated.

Hi Don,

Lizzie was Catholic so do you know the name of & where the nearest R.C. Church is, where she may be buried?

In 1940, no idea.  The old standby would be St. Mirren's but I doubt they had any room left by this time.

The largest cemetery used in Paisley for RC burials is Hawkhead Cemetery in Hawkhead Road in Paisley. I think it is run by Renfrewshire Council, however, I am not certain of that.

Woodside Crematorium and Cemetery is privately run.

I would think that both would charge for a search, but again, I am not certain.

I have been never charged by Renfrew.  Yes their website states there may be a charge but I have found if you have the details they don't...well at least for me.
