I'm loathe to suggest the following but faced with the problem you have of not knowing the mother's maiden name I wonder...!

Have you considered searching Feering PRs for the birth/baptism of an Elizabeth who would be of an age to marry in 1696 and who has a father's name matching one of the sons of Edward & Elizabeth Sharpe?  Then, if you find a likely lady, follow up with a check of the names of her siblings to see if any also match the names of Edward and Elizabeth's children.

Just a thought

Essex: Card, Harris, Stowell, Theobald/Tibbles & Turner.
Norfolk: Beale, Cork & Dalton.
Yorkshire: Oswald Sturdy birth/baptism c1708, Oswald where the devil are you?

Had the same idea, I've had a subscription to SEAX for three months now.
Unfortunately the register for baptism from 1649-1714 is also missing

What a pain, seems like the cards are stacked against you.  :(

I do know how you feel, quite a number of my Essex Searles whose names we know from Wills etc cannot be researched for baptism and marriage dates nor their wives maiden surnames, Great Saling Registers go no further back than 1715 for baptisms and 1732 for marriages and burials.  >:(  :)
