Ok - cwgc have it wrong.  Maryhill is Glasgow which is Lanarkshire

Thanks CaroleW.  I've been to Scotland on a couple of occasions for holidays - beautiful scenery you have up there.  Loved it!

I don't see any reference to a birthplace on CWGC - could 'Maryhill, Banff' be a mistranscription of 'Maryhill Barracks'?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
