Can't Find him after 1871 (William DULSTON)
« on: Sunday 06 March 16 12:07 GMT (UK) »

I'm looking at this Birth in Oxford in 1856:

First name(s)    WILLIAM
Last name    DULSTON
Birth year    1856
Birth quarter    3
Registration month    -
Mother's last name    -
District    OXFORD
County    Oxfordshire
Country    England
Volume    3A
Page    483
Record set    England & Wales births 1837-2006

I can see him on the 1871 Census:

Samuel    Dulston    Head    59    1812    Born:    Shropshire, England
Jane    Dulston            Wife           41    1830    -    Oxfordshire, England
William    Dulston    Son    -    Male    14    1857    -    Oxfordshire, England
Edward    Dulston    Son    -    Male    11    1860    -    Oxfordshire, England
Harry    Dulston    Son    -    Male    8    1863    -    Oxfordshire, England
Arthur    Dulston    Son    -    Male    6    1865    -    Oxfordshire, England

But then he seems to disappear?

Can anyone else on here see him after 1871 please?

Cheers, Romilly.

Thanks for digging those links out ShaunJ,

I was just looking through my (paper) notes on William (James) Warren, and couldn't remember if I had followed through the William Dulston angle...

I've never found a correct Death for William James Warren, but perhaps he Died as William Dulston?

Romilly ???

Further to my last Post...

I might have found a reason for the name changes...

There's an entry in the 'Lunacy Patient's Admission Register', (On An******) showing an Admission for a Samuel Dulston on the 16th Feb 1876. I can't open it, because my subs have expired, but I wonder if this was William Dulston's Father?

Another possible reason?

The Oxford Journal of 15 February 1873 has a report of an inquest into the death of Jane Dulstone, 45, wife of Samuel Dulstone, tailor, 1 Dawson Place, Jericho. She was found drowned in the canal the morning after an argument at home in which she had thrown a lamp at her husband. It was reported that she frequently argued with her eldest son.

A bit more on Samuel's last days:

Littlemore Hospital (County Lunatic Asylum, just outside Oxford)
DULSTON Samuel, admitted 16.2.1876, died 13.3.1877.  Age 66.  Melancholy.  Senile decay.  PM.

Littlemore, St Mary & St Nicholas Church
Burial 17 Mar 1877
DULSTON Samuel   66 yrs, County Lunatic Asylum

Very sad.

Gosh!!  :'( :'(

Thanks so much for all of the replies... I guess that explains the name change! (The name DULSTON must have been notorious in Oxford).

This doesn't seem to be in the Newspaper Section on FindMyPast...

I would like to read the whole Article. Where can you see it ShaunJ? (I wonder whether there would have been an Inquest?)
