Dear all,
I was wondering if someone out there is researching Rev. Samuel Silver in depth.
My 3rd great-grandmother was born in 1825 in Claypole, Lincolnshire, and married there in 1852 to a man (William Henry Graham) who was born in Brighton, Sussex, and living in Hastings.
I was wondering how they might have met, since there is no track to be found anywhere of WH Graham...
Looking in the 1851 census, I couldn't find William anywhere except a William "Brayham" with the correct profession and birth date, and wrong birth place, but I did find Catherine. She was working as a servant in the household of Samuel Silver in West Wratting, Cambridgeshire.
This in itself is rather weird, since her family was rather wealthy, but that's a different matter.
I was wondering if the link with Brighton could be through Samuel Silver. I have researched him a bit, and found out that he had one sister who was born in Brighton, and one son who died in Arundel in the 1850's, aged 17, "while visiting his brother JB Silver" (according to The Gentleman's Magazine; JB Silver is his 11 years older half-brother John Bye Silver, Esq.).
The Silver family must have some link to Sussex, maybe a Summer house? WH Graham was a carpenter (first a furniture maker, later in life a joiner), maybe he made some furniture for the Silvers?
If there's anyone who can give me more details, that would be great. I am looking for things out of the ordinary (i.e. I have already found all census entries, baptisms, BMD index records etc for him, his siblings and his children).
Regards,
Tom
