Muir Cottage, Burghmuir
« on: Wednesday 09 March 16 19:36 GMT (UK) »
Trying to help a friend out on the other side of the world! I know there's not much to go on but... We have a postcard that was sent to a Mr and Mrs David McIntyre in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1907. The sender (Grace - no surname) lived at Muir Cottage, Burghmuir. The family has close links to Perth and I'm guessing it's the Burghmuir to the west of Perth. The only other piece of information to be gleaned from the postcard was that her sister was a Mrs Rollo. Is there any way of finding out who lived at Muir Cottage around 1907?
Edwards, Grieve, Talbert in Angus and Kincardineshire; Allan, Dundas, Hacket, Milne, Reid in Aberdeen and Orkney; Brock in Thurso and Aberdeen; Rennie in Aberdeenshire to name but a few...

You could try having a look at the Valuation Rolls for 1905 (one of the few years currently online on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk).

Pure guess...but there is this 1901 census entry:

John Christie 47 stonemason b. Rhynd, Perthshire
Janet Mcfarlane 44 wife b. Perth, Perthshire
Janet Christie 23
Christina Christie 21
Helen Christie 19
Grace Christie 15
Agnes Christie 10
John Christie 5
David Christie 2
Robina Wood 20 boarder b. Motherwell Lanarkshire

Address: Burghmuir Rd Muir Cottage, Tibbermore Perthshire

There is a marriage in 1905 between a Christina Christie and a Mr Rollo in Perth. Maybe daughter Christina aged 21 in 1901? Her age at death would fit with a birth c. 1880.

ED2005, if your friends have good connections to this family, there is a well documented family tree here http://person.ancestry.co.uk/tree/18736500/person/710627824/facts (needs a subscription though to view  :-\) which includes the death cert image for John Christie snr in 1919. He showed as still living at Muir Cottage, Burghmuir, Tibbermore at the time of his death. A photo of Grace, who made her life in Canada in later years is also included amongst other details....including an old photo of Muir Cottage itself!

That's amazing! I will pass this info on immediately, but it looks very promising to me. Thank you again, very much.
