John and Elizabeth - both died before he left. As far as his siblings are concerned, they were widely scattered and all are  dead . I have no knowledge of their offspring if any. As far as I know he did not contact any of his family until he suddenly reappeared.
Where are you hoping to go with this Keyboard?

I'm still unsure as to what we can possibly find!

After he married, had children etc (so too late for those certs) , he "disappeared" for a bit. Then he came back , lived with daughter, presumably in Wales, died in a hospital in Shropshire, and left his estate to that daughter.

So, maybe he told the daughter where he had been - but if she is deceased and never passed on the info to anyone else that wont lead anywhere.

What sort of record can we hope to find? Not sure there will be anything if he was just getting on with life and not marrying/having children/commiting a crime/emigrating etc. Other than electoral rolls - but with no knowledge of where he was that is a non starter.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

I have to agree with you lizdb and accept that we will never find where he spent those years. At least he was with his family at the end of his life.

Thank you all for your efforts and suggestions - all much appreciated.

Hi looking at Google Maps as to the residence of Ellen James in 1939 Hirrhos Hall, Llanfyllin, our man did not run away a real distance if the Thomas/David Iago is to be believed in Ellesmere, Shropshire about 23 miles away, but why the breakdown of marriage, anyone's guess, at least he must have kept in touch with his daughter!

PS Hirrhos Hall looks to be a great place to visit?

Yes, Hirros Hall is very nice and the surrounding area is lovely also. Ellen moved there after he left. I have come to the same conclusion about there being a marital  rift ( reasons unknown) and I'm sure that he did not keep in touch with his daughter  - it was a big shock to her when he turned up.
Keyboard you have been invaluable and its been great talking to you. Thank you.
