John Henry Williams/Newland, from Caerphilly

Apologies if this is the wrong forum but would be grateful for any help finding John Henry Williams whose registered name was Newland (b 1904), as not having any luck so far. John Henry married    Elsie Annie Holden (b 1911) on 17th December, 1929  with none of John's  parents recorded on marriage certificate.  His profession was a cinema operator so he may have worked at the Caerphilly Working men's institute?

Any links or suggestions would be most welcome.

John Henry Nowland (with an "O" not "E") was born June Qtr 1904 and baptised June 7th 1904 in Cardiff with a mother Eliza Nowland and no father shown.

Believe that Eliza is possibly Eliza Jane Nowland born 1883 in Cardiff with father John Henry Nowland (1861 Cornwall) and Mary (1860 Cardiff).  Eliza is on the 1891 census but have not yet found her on the 1901 census as yet. 

Think that Eliza Jane married a Owen Wigley in 1906, have not found them on the 1911 census as yet.  Think it is a bit of a stretch to turn Wigley into Williams!

Incidentally the 1929 marriage is between Nowland & Holder.

Would love to know where you got with this as John Henry Nowland is my great grandfather. As someone has mentioned above, his name is Nowland with an o not an e.

I can help you fill in some bits:

He was actually born in Cardiff Workhouse in 1904 to Eliza Jane Nowland and an unknown father. She was working as a domestic servant in Cardiff for a Thomas Price on the 1901 census so this could explain the lack of father noted. Eliza's mother is a Mary Cain from Cardiff and her father Henry John Nowland (parents John Nowland and Elizabeth Pascoe) from Penryn, Cornwall. Eliza married Owen Wigley in 1906 in Pontypridd and had a separate family. As far as I know, John Henry (Nowland) Williams never knew or had any contact with his mother.

John Henry Nowland was adopted from the workhouse by a family with the surname Williams who I am struggling to find on the census as it's so common in Wales. He marries Elsie Annie Holder in 1929 whose family I have also struggled to find as she is born after the 1911 census but on her marriage certificate her father's name is listed as William Holder.
