Death appeared to be at Kerikeri, only going by the tree on Ancestry for the family.  I see that his full name was Thomas Pender Stirling born 6 Nov 1914, High Blantyre, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Wow, thanks, everyone. Not quite sure why I wasn't getting notifications, so I had no idea how you were all beavering away there. I will take a good look at all this when I have time - slightly busy right now with guests etc.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

A little more........

The death notice of Elizabeth McGregor Whitelaw, 1994 (widow of James Sutherland Whitelaw) mentions-

"mother of..........and the late William Whitelaw".....

Here is the very sad report of the death of wee William in 1938, aged 2 years.

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=AS19380418.2.96&srpos=4&e=--1938---1938--10--1----2william+whitelaw--

His full name was William Buchanan Whitelaw.
