McVady and Wakefield marriage - Harrow?
« on: Thursday 17 March 16 19:57 GMT (UK) »
Hello all.
I am trying and failing to find the marriage of Lottie WAKEFIELD born 1905 and John I McVADY born 1905. In 1939 they were living with Lottie's parents and brother at 9 Gainsborough Gardens, Harrow. They apparently had two children, I have only been able to find a daughter born in 1932 who I will not name as she could still be alive.
The Wakefield family originated from Nottinghamshire and I have all their data but I wondered if the McVady name was Scots or Irish - records that I don't have access to, and maybe the marriage took place there.  Or the other alternative is that there are some records relating to Harrow and area that could give the answer.
Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

NC.

There's a marriage of a Lottie Wakefield in Basford in 1928 - different spouse, Ernest W Brown. I wonder if she was widowed and remarried or was just living as Mrs McVady?

One possible sighting of John McVady away from the Wakefields in 1931 on the electoral register

John McVady, 64 Station Grove, Harrow

Is she married in 1939 as she is listed as a Wakefield with McVady in brackets. Doesn't that mean that they either married or she took his name later?

well she's calling herself M(a)cVady from 1936 on the electoral register

Interestingly there's another marriage for a Ernest W Brown in Basford in 1939

There is something strange about the actual image of the 1939! I presume you've seen that Nottschick?

We're not allowed to give information re that on here.

Hmm, yes I have seen the 1939 image.  Apart from Lottie's entry I am also wondering why her mother and brother were shown as residents 6 and 7 of the next door family, but who is to know their domestic arrangements.
I have been looking at Ernest W Brown without much success, as I can't find exactly who he is either in a marriage to Lottie or Ivy L Manning in 1939.  The only clue that it may be the same Ernest is that both brides came from Hucknall. I know that neither marriage took place at either of Hucknall's main churches but Lottie's mother came from a strong Methodist background so her marriage could be there, the records being at Nottingham archives.  Or I may have to buy a certificate.
I am thinking that it is more than likely that Lottie and John never married.  Whether the Ernest W was a bigamist remains to be seen.
I am most grateful for your help and suggestions, thank you.

the Ernest W Brown marriages may just be a coincidence - I can only access the indexes but Ivy L Brown/Manning is b 1916, and there's an Ernest W Brown b 1916 in the area, so too young to marry Lottie in 1928  (unless he's knocked10 yrs off by 1939!)
