Place in Mayo
« on: Friday 18 March 16 12:01 GMT (UK) »
Could somebody have a quick look at the place name here.  I'm presuming that the County is Mayo, although it doesn't really look like it to me!  And I can't seem to decipher the comment about "Bailliebank"  Can anyone help with this please.

Roger

I think it says 'not a twld in County Mayo' - meaning  townland.

Does 'Ip fo' mean 'Ipso Facto' but I would wonder why?

Possibly - it looks like the name given wasn't a known place name.  Can't quite make out the next bit - "surrounding"??  But at least I get the gist of the form.

Thanks for your help

Roger.

There is a place called Bellaburke (was Ballyburke) near Westport.  And I have found 4 baptisms for children of Martin Dolan and Mary Higgins from there.  But not one for John!

Hopefully I'm getting closer!

Which parish is it that you are searching?
I can see Ballyburke, Galway and Bellaburke, Ballintober, Mayo but not Westport.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01had/  gets you Dolans on 1901 Census

This one is 60 y.o.  so maybe look for this one too?  See if you can find him on church records, possible sibling??  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Mayo/Cloonkeen/Bellaburke/1584774/
