Baptism in Grimsby St Andrew (FreeReg)
6 Sep 1905
forenames - Charles Edward Sharpe
parents - Charles Henry Hewson + Ada Ella
born 22 Aug 1905

Don't know what they did with those Hewson birth registrations in Grimsby. They all seem to have an initial S in their name in the indexes, presumably for Sharp. Did Ada register them and not name the father, or did they say the father was Charles Hewson?

Thanks for the Baptism record Jon.  It's strange isn't it - why would she call the child Hewson, if the father was Charles Sharp.  I'm not sure what the legal position is - if you can give a child the father's name if you weren't married to him, but a Baptism isn't a legal thing as such, so I suppose you could get away with that.

Thank you very much for that Tom.  Charles George is the brother of my daughter in law's father.

I have learned such a lot about the Sharp family recently, as a Professor Bruce Gilchrist, originally born in Pontefract, emigrated to America when he was 22.  He worked for Columbia University.  He is descended from my daughter in law's gt. gt. gt. grandfather John Sharp and his wife Ann Gilchrist and wrote a 1,000 page book about all the Sharp/Gilchrist family.  He did extensive research and made many trips across to England and presented copies of this book to quite a lot of family members, one of which I have been in touch with.  Also, he presented a copy of his book to Grimsby Central Library, where I live and I have looked through it with great interest.  It has been a massive help to be able to refer to it.  He not only traced all the family trees, but listed things such as bigamy, suicide and even murder!

Thank you for your imput.

We have a 'no living people'policy here at Rootschat.

Are the people mentioned in reply #31 still alive?

If so, their names need to be removed.
