Sinann,

Checking names of old records is a long shot, but worth a try.

You never know when you might get lucky.

Thanks again for your help.

Don't forget County lines changed.... Ballaghaderren for example!

The location of Ballaghaderren is a topic that has been debated for a long time. What county is it in? Mayo or Roscommon. Up until 1898 Ballaghaderreen was part of county Mayo. This changed under the Local Government Act of 1898 when the town was transferred from Mayo to Roscommon. This act had to be introduced in Ireland as changes needed to be made to the local government in the country and to bring order to the local authorities.

Mentioned in  Kilcoman Parish, Mayo!!

1820-03: Bills were posted, offering a reward from the Rt. Hon. D. Browne, of £50 for the apprehension of John Burke, of Musickfield, county Galway.....

Until 1898, there were two parishes of the name, Kilcolman, in the county of Mayo: one in the barony of Clanmorris, and the other in the barony of Costello. The Local Government Act (Ireland) of 1898 transferred several parishes from the counties of Mayo and Galway to the county of Roscommon, including the parish of Kilcolman (Costello).

hallmark,

I think that you have to have been born in Ireland to understand Irish Geography and Placenames.

Even then, it is hard to understand.

Thanks for the help.

Part of Roscommon went to Galway, Westmeath! etc etc

Simple!!  :-))

Newcastle Courant 11 March 1820 - " ... rebels from the Counties of Roscommon and Galway made a concentrated movement through the pass towards Mayo between Dunmacreena and Belmount ... they passed into Mayo ... and proceeded towards the different villages  in the direction of Musickfield and Ballindangan* ..."

* - think this is Ballindine - there's a Dangan Park in modern day Ballandine -right on the border

Public Ledger & Daily Adventurer 10 Mar 1820 - " ... apprehension of J Burke, of Musickfield in the County of Galway ..." (details already posted)

Perry's Bankrupt Gazette 24 Feb 1838 - "GALWAY 22 Feb.ten  Walsh James, of Musickfield, yeoman"

Dublin Evening Post 10 Feb 1818 - "Creditors of Laughlin Rogers - Malacky Hynes of Musicfield* County Galway

* - without the "k".
