Ber Street, Norwich
« on: Wednesday 23 March 16 09:09 GMT (UK) »
I have discovered that my 3x great grandparents, Thomas and Elizabeth Engall were publicans at the Flecked Bull, 38/40 Ber Street, Norwich in the 1841 and 1851 census. I have also found the photo below of Ber Street. No question really, but just wondered if anyone has a photo of the actual pub as I would love to see where they lived and worked. or can tell me if 38/40 is on this photo, Thankyou.

Hi Gembar

Looking at Google Maps street view, there is a White Hart Yard in Ber Street, this is somewhere near to where the cart is on the right hand side of the road in the Francis Frith photo.
From the Norfolk Pubs web site, the White Hart pub was at no. 6 Ber Street.

So I would think that no. 40 was somewhere back from where that photo was taken.

Have you done a name search on the Norfolk Pubs site?, as  Thomas Engall appears at other pubs.

Thank you Yokel. it seems that I may also have some other family members in the same trade.
 More investigating to do.

You can see the position on the link I am sending. Start at the circular feature of the castle and head south to Timberhill. North east side of Ber Street going out towards Ber Street Gate, just past Thorn Lane then Lamb Yard, Twitters Court then Flecked Bull Yard.
