Hello Jack

Many thanks for your reply. The James HILL you mention is the son of the James Hill and Mary (Nee Sheehan) that I am looking for. My Grandmother Frances Stock(Nee HILL) was sister to James jnr. She came to Western Australia with another brother William in 1897. Two other brothers Peter and Patrick HILL were already in West Australia.

I appreciate your reply very much. Bob and I visited Hacketstown in 1996 and saw what was left of the HILL family farm in the Main st of the town. I remember it was right opposite the school. Sadly it was badly neglected.

James Jnr left it to his son Michael who was not capable of running the farm. It was left by Michael to the Kennedy family (local pharmacy family) They were extremely good to him over many years. Such a nice family.

Just thought a bit of the Hill family history may be of some interest to you. If not no harm done.

Thanks again

Hi Paddy and Jack
I am in Canada and the granddaughter of William Michael Hill. For reasons unknown to the family, William Hill took my grandmother's name when they arrived in Canada in 1913. He was known as Michael O'Flaherty.  He died in 1970. My grandmother Katherine or Catherine O'Flaherty died in 1955. William and Catherine had 4 children, Kathleen who was born in Baltinglass, February 14, 1912, my uncle Bill, a priest, 1914, my father John O'Flaherty (b 1918-d 2008) who played hockey, and my aunt Margaret (1922) who only just passed away last November. She was a nun for 78 years. Anything more you can share with the O'Flaherty family would be much appreciated!

YES!
William Michael Hill married Catherine O'Flaherty at the Sacred Heart Church in Lenora, West Australia on Nov. 8, 1910.
Are you related to the O'Flahertys or Hills?

No, not related, just trying to help, hopefully Paddy will get a notification of your post if his email address hasn't changed.

Was Catherine O'Flaherty born in Australia?  We have quite a few very good Australian researchers on RootsChat who will hopefully be able to help you.
