Clifford/Murphy family
« on: Saturday 26 March 16 15:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi all I wondered if anyone can help I'm looking for any information to help trace my family

I've found that my grandmother was Mary Bridget Clifford born we believe 1928 by not 100% as not found birth record we've been told her birth name was possibly Maureen

Her parents were Patrick Joseph Clifford and Helen Murphy from Tralee but other then that I have no further information just wondered if someone can point me in the right direction of where to search next thanks

Hello and welcome.

This could be the marriage of her parents which would give a starting point for a year of birth.  If you think it is then you could send for the marriages details.

There are several Mary Clifford births. It may be best to apply for birth details with the information you have.

You can get a copy of the entry for 4 euros.

Hi thank you will have a look into that marriage record thank you

Thanks I've looked into a couple of the Mary Clifford births and so far ruled them out but we have since learnt that she may have been born Maureen so are relooking, seems to be a common theme in my family born one name but going by another making it difficult to trace them

Was she born in Tralee?
I can't see a Maureen Clifford in Kerry.

That's the belief but we have no evidence at this point, really struggling with this branch

I know there were / are some baptisms and registrations for Maureen but often it would be Mary with Maureen as the diminutive name at home.

It might be worth asking for a birth registration with those parents.

Were there any siblings for your grandmother?

Hi she had a fair few siblings I've been told but not 100% on dates etc

However we have had a little breakthrough as we have found a burial record of my grandmother's mother

Helen Clifford (nee Murphy) died on the 18th January 1983 aged 78 so born around 1904/05 and was buried in Tralee
