John Patterson
« on: Tuesday 29 March 16 23:00 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm hoping that someone can help me with a search I'm conducting for my mother and her family. My mothers father was a Robert Patterson b1910 in Rockcorry, County Monaghan. We know Roberts parents were a John Patterson b1841 (or there abouts) and an Eliza Jane Gardiner b1877. John and Eliza got married in 1902 in Cootehill. They went on to have 5 Children - Mary, John, George, Alexander and Robert.

My mother told me that John was previously married to a lady called Miss Rainee (or similar spelling). To save repeating everything else I have already posted the information on another forum which has helped fill in some gaps - http://www.belfastforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=65317.new#new

But we have many remaining questions, of primary interest are -

- Miss Rainee - we can find no record of another wedding for John although we know their childrens names and the 1902 wedding record stated he's a widower

- Thomas Patterson - The grooms father from the 1902 wedding record was called Thomas Patterson. Although my mother thought his name was William and always believed the Patterson family came from Inverness in Scotland. We would like to confirm whether the Patterson's did originate from Scotland or find out where they were from.

- John Patterson - He's listed on the 1911 Census but can't find him on the 1901 census

We have been searching the family history for quite some time and the family would love to fill these gaps. Hoping someone on here can help!

Thanks,

Darren

- John Patterson - He's listed on the 1911 Census but can't find him on the 1901 census.. so none of us can see what Religion they were etc as you didn't give link to Census.
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

One other bit of info from my mum - John Patterson was a professional gardener and he worked as a full time gardener for Lady Wyndham's estate Dartrey near Cootehill.

I can't search it on my iPad but perhaps it would be worth looking at Drum on Griffiths Valuation for the smithy business and or the Rainee name http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch
Probably better to use Griffiths Places, I can't even open that to get a link.
One of the Northern Ireland sites has the revision books if you do find the business she might turn up there.
Can't remember which one but someone here will know.

Not sure why an indirect link to 1911 census but here's the one straight to the transcribed page-
   www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Monaghan/Dawsongrove/Rockcorry_Town/806452

Rockcorry seems to be missing from 1901 census?

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I'm pretty sure John Patterson was buried in Rockcorry, but will confirm.

I believe this is the baptism record for Eliza - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/76509862/Family%20History/Patterson/Eliza_Jane_Gardiner_1870_baptism.jpg

For some reason I thought I had the 1901 census for Eliza, but can't seem to find it now. Will keep looking

LINK to Eliza Jane Gardner on 1901 census at #22 in Boyher (Dawsongrove, Monaghan)

There is a William Patterson & family at #9 and a John Patterson at #25 in Boyher (Dawsongrove, Monaghan)

I wonder is this your John although he is shown as not married if you look at the original return there is a mismatch of columns and he could have been the widower - LINK

Also, with wrong father's name this may be unrelated
