Obituary - F. Blanchard Johnson, Fresno, California
« on: Thursday 31 March 16 17:19 BST (UK) »
After such good luck finding Ethel M. Logan [thanks, shellyesq], I'd like to try another stab in the dark for a disappeared female Logan in California.  This time I am looking for Jean E. Logan, born 11 July 1896 in Hollister, San Benito County, California, daughter of Erwin S. Logan and Lona E. Lowe.

I am guessing that Jean Logan married F. Blanchard Johnson [aka Francis B. Johnson or Blanchard F. Johnson], born October 1895 in California, son of James and Blanche Johnson.  Blanchard Johnson and his wife Jean resided in Fresno, California and Jean died there on 4 December 1932.  Blanchard continued to live in Fresno until at least 1970 [when he married Gladys Curtis].

I am looking for an obituary or any other source that would confirm the identity of Blanchard Johnson's first wife.

The couple are together in 1920 Lay Street - Fresno, California

J B Johnson   56 F B Johnson   45
F B Johnson   23 Jean Johnson   23
James L Johnson    11 months.
Bessie Lacy   28

1930 indicates they had been married 13 years. FB JOhnson aged 21 years and Jean at 20 years.

The WW1 Draft Francis Blanchard Johnson shows him married by 5 June 1917

Thanks, Sandra.  Even more interesting is the 1930 census where they are living just two houses away from Erwin [Irwin] S. and Lona Logan, the parents of my Jean E. Logan.

Edited to add that the mother of Blanchard Johnson's children had the surname Logan.

Their son John B that appeared in the 1930/1940 census, birth records gives his mother's maiden name as Logan.

An obituary for Mrs. Johnson that is somewhat mangled by the character recognition software here - https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/33797315/  I'm going to see if I can find the actual image.

That's another bingo, shellyesq.  The "pioneer automobile dealers," "Ernest W. Johnson" and "Jack T. Logan" are enough to identify her.  Thanks, again.

You're welcome!  I'm glad you could interpret it, because I could only find that day's paper scanned up to around pg. 14.
