McKNIGHT 1813-1890 Ayr/Lanark/Dumfries

The attached table shows the family I am puzzling over.

Susan Rankin McKnight is my ancestor and I am confident
John Rankin McKinght 22/11/1813-1870 so of Goerge McKnight & Susanna Ranken is the correct line.
I am trying to unravel Susan's siblings.
The table attached shows extracts from the censuses and I think Susan Rankin McKnight and Cunningham Burnside McKnight tie these families through the censuses.

However - surely the latter children (Catherine 1865 and Agnes 1866) cannot be the children of Johns wife Mary Wilson as census indicates her birth around 1815. So -

Did John marry twice - two Marys? or are there two John & Mary families and I have mixed them.
Her age changes by 5 years and bith location from New Cumnock to Muirkirk (not that far away)
Or were these latter children actually grandchildren.

Regarding daughter Agnes. Her 1871 census entry, that you have already, shows her as a 5 yr old dressmaker    Have you looked at the original image to see what the age should actually be?

Where does Elizabeth show in your records? Couldn't see her in the entry with Mary mother as head in Blythswood, Glasgow.

ADDED: See there is an 8yr old Agnes showing in 1851, born in Old Monkland area, with parents John and Mary in Summerlee, Old Monkland.

John and William McKnights brothers? Maybe this entry for William https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTKH-TYW Going by the names of children in the households, particulary that of Cunningham Burnside McKnight and Susan in both families.  William I think may have died in 1869 (possible entry with a death year of 1869 in the wills & testament section of SP). His death cert would let you verify whether he was a brother to John.

Well -I have spent all morning looking at this - and yes you are correct. Two brothers, both with wives called Mary and children with the same name. The Agnes age 5 seems to be a transcription error - but I haven't looked at the original - no credit left.

I have a McKnight side to my family.  both my grandmothers are agnes simpson mcknight and jessie mcruer mcknight. their sister was mary bethel mcknight.their father was william bethell mcknight married to jessie mcruer.his father was william bethell mcknight maried mary bethell. his father was john mcknight 1814 married mary wilson.  also on my tree susannah rankin mcknight b.2-5-1847 and cunningham burnside b. 26-10-1857.elspeth mcknight b.30-12-1849.needless to say my grandfathers married 2 of the sisters making my parents 1st cousins ! my fathers name was william bethell mcknight urie.hope this helps you
