Ross & Cromarty Shire, Scotland ??

Just a guess!   Maybe not as I can see you have the Cromarty bit.    I thought Ross & Cromarty sort of went together!   ;)

This was prior to the area being known as Ross & Cromarty.
We have Cromarty with Shire written beneath it - Scotland to the right of the word Cromarty. The word we can't read is the word to the left of Cromarty.....
Help please.

Can't find a place name which resembles this, could it be the name of a Farm?

What was his occupation?

Ross-shire and Cromarty-shire merged in 1891.

ScotlandsPlaces http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/ has a reference to Alexander Anderson Esq. of The Lands of Udoll, or Udale in Cromartyshire.

Try the old maps on the National Library of Scotland's website.

LINDSAY - Lanarkshire
PURDIE - Lanarkshire; W. Lothian
POZZI - Elgin; Lancashire
MACKENZIE, MORISON - Stornoway

Udale appears on this map, to the south of the Cromarty Firth.
