Does anyone know where I will find baptism records for Llangolman
I am hunting for William Davies father Benjamin born   born 27 Dec 1829
Will I need a trip to the National Library? or is there an easier way to find it?

Hello Trees

Llangolman is never far away from my heart.

I`m afraid if your family were Baptist the PRs are in London.

An email or phone call to the Record Office in Haverfordwest may help.

Thank you both,
He wasn't a baptist as far as I know . he married in Cof E  but didn't have his children baptised in the Cof E church, strange that.

After Hardwicke's Marriage Act in 1753, all marriages (except Quakers & Jews) had to take place in an Anglican (C of E) church.

That only changed with the onset of Civil Registration in 1837.

So he might well have been Baptist?

Also, Baptists usually only perform baptisms on adults? Another clue? ;D

Sorry if I`m trying to teach you how to suck eggs but until 1837 registration started, marriages were`nt allowed in Chaples.

I have some family buried at llangolman Church yard and later others buried at llandilo Chaple graveyard which is very close to the Church.

Good luck with your search

Correction to the above:  Not neccasarily adults,  but not babies.     When they of sufficient age to understand what they are doing.  They take a course of study in order to qualify.  A Baptist baptism involves Total immersion and the wearing of special robes.

Yes I agree with all you are saying re Baptists but I have no reason to think this family were Baptists or come to think of it any other denomination
William's children all seem to have different allegiances
3 of four that went to Canada were Methodist the fourth was Anglican
of the ones who stayed in Wales two were Anglican and one married in the Baptist church but her children were baptised and confirmed in the Anglican church
all of which makes me think William was not particularly committed to any one denomination
Interesting discussion but its not helping me find William's birth and parents he still remains my big mystery man
