William and Rebecca Eltham and family in Bampton
« on: Monday 04 April 16 11:25 BST (UK) »
William Eltham was baptised in 1780 s/o William and Hannah (nee Griffin) Eltham.
He married Rebecca Hudson in Oct 1802. William and Rebecca baptised four children that I know of
John Dec 1802, Mary 1804, James  1810 and Sophia 1812. All events in Bampton, Oxon. I can find William on 1841 census but not Rebecca, William and Rebecca together in 1851 and William (widower) in 1861. Rebecca died in 1856. There is a Rebecca Heltom age 60 Female servant in 1841 in Bampton which could be her, but it says she wasn't born in county, but in 1851 she was recorded as born in Cote, Oxon (village 3 miles east of Bampton).

What I'm trying to find is what happened to the four children.
Can anyone help track them down please.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge

Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Hi LizzieL,

Here are  some details that go some way to fill the gaps - taken from the Bampton transcripts (ex OFHS);

Thanks very much, so they lost all four of the children, before they grew up to have families. I had found a later one (Ann Mariah) but she died when she was 9. That is so sad.

I am researching my Berkshire Eltham family. I have got back to Thomas whose likely year of birth might connect him to the Bampton Elthams. But it looks like the last Bampton Eltham family reached a dead end with William and Rebecca's children. So no chance of a finding a fellow researcher for that line.

A tree on Ancestry had John moving to Eynsham and starting the Eynsham line of Elthams, but I had great doubts about that as birth year was consistently way out and so was place of birth. Eynsham John was born in Eynsham about 1795. He married in 1816, so not possible he was Bampton John born in 1802.
