Some help finding the origins of Jane Rees please?!
« on: Monday 04 April 16 21:07 BST (UK) »
Jane Rees married in 1891 but her life before this is a mystery to me.
Here's what I have till now:

She was born in 1863 in Tal Y Bont
Her Father was David Rees (either a Mariner or Miner, can't read the cert) he had died by Nov 1891.
She married Thomas Williams in Bangor in Nov 1891
Their marriage cert gave her address as Aberystwyth in 1891.

Where do I go next? I'd like to get her in an earlier census but Jane Rees daur of David Rees is very common in these parts and I don't know whether she was in Talybont or Aberystwyth or whether David was sailing away etc? It's tricky.
I was thinking about a birth cert but again, common names?

Her actual whereabouts on a census are immaterial - her birthplace is the best search criteria

Talybont in Breconshire or Talybont in Cardiganshire?  Ancestry throws up both locations

Where are they in 1911 and is her birthplace still shown as Talybont?

Have you checked out the 1864 baptism on FS with father David?

it's not that common a name. If she's being honest about her age, which, given she married a younger man, isn't necessarily so, there are only 2 births registered in the Aberystwyth district at the likely time & one a little earlier.
june qtr 1863 Aberystwyth vol 11b pg 77
sep qtr 1863 Aberystwyth vol 11b pg 60
dec qtr 1861 Aberystwyth vol 11b pg 54

You could try ordering the cert from the registrars and ask them only to issue if the father is David

Could you attach a scan of David's occupation from the marriage cert for another opinion?
Does the cert give an address in Aberystwyth for Jane?

Thanks so much for the replies everyone!

Jane was born in Talybont Cardiganshire.
Her husband was Thomas Edward Williams 1869-1944 a Baptist Minister, born in Aberystwyth.
The witnesses were both Williams but I struggle to read the forenames.
I am reluctant to use the hits I have from FS as the names are a bit too common.
I'm fairly confident about her age because it was consistent even till her death and is on her gravestone.

I have her and Thomas in 1901 and 1911 censuses.
I also have Thomas in 1891, a few months before they married. He was living on Alma Terr, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey.

I've attached their marriage cert.  If it helps with deciphering, I know Jane's Father in law was a master mariner. Sorry it's small, I had to crop it to keep it under 500KB.

think David was a miner, and the address is Penglais Road, but no sign of a Jane Rees there on the 1891 census, no Rees family at all.
