Scotlandspeople help
« on: Tuesday 05 April 16 14:51 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a death for , according to her marriage certificate, Elizabeth McCuskey.

She was born in Ireland c 1844 and married John Wright in 1867 in Bridgeton, Glasgow.

She is on the 1871 census living in New Street with her 2 sons and her sister, Helen Downey.

In 1881 she is living at Kirk Street with her brother Felix McCluskey and her 3 children, no sign of her husband on either census , his occupation was merchant seaman so  presume he was at sea.
My problem is her surname McCuskey , could someone please explain to me how to use the surname options on Scotlandspeople ,I am at a complete loss with it,

thank you

Skippy,

Are you looking under her married name or her maiden name?

If she was married - look under her married name. She will be registered under her married name - but her maiden name will also be shown on the certificate.

Pennines,

I think I have tried that already, but I will go back and check , my head was spinning with trying to find a McCuskey with different spellings.

Just looked on Scotlands People.
Marriage of John Wright and Elizabeth McCuskey

1867   WRIGHT   JOHN   MCCUSKEY   ELIZABETH   BRIDGETON   GLASGOW CITY/LANARK   644/03 0044

McCuskey was her maiden name. You will see the whole record with all the details if you look at this record. You will need to enter the names in the appropriate sections.
Good luck looking.

Thank you very much Morag,

I have her marriage details, it's just a bit confusing trying to find her death with different spellings of McCuskey,

Had another look under the Deaths. On the Catholic registers there is one for Elizabeth Wright who was interred in  ST PETER'S DALBETH CEMETERY on 16 October 1879. She died of throat disease aged 42. Would that fit with her birth date?

Could this be the person you are seeking?  Not sure how you would go about verifying these details but perhaps someone else on here might be able to help further.

Skippy - have you lost her after 1881? She may not have died - she may have remarried. (I realise she will have died at some point - but I am wondering if you are just looking post 1881!)

Have you looked for her children on the census records?
If you find a marriage for one of them it SHOULD say whether she is deceased at that point.

If this is the right person her parent's names should match with those on her marriage certificate.
