Is there no end to that particular Moorhead Clan  :P

So Robert's two surviving children with his wife #1 Mary Jane Burns, his two sons John J and Robert, went back to Ireland it seems with their Dad and it looks like perhaps stayed?  Or we see them on the 1901 in the census with their Uncle and the other with his Grandma.

While their Dad Robert remarried in Ireland and went back to the USA with his new wife Helena and had 4 children with her in the USA before dying in 1909.

Alexander his brother was married 3x after all so ... guess I should not be at all surprised!

Thanks aghadowey

... mention here of Letters of Administration (with the Will and one Codicil annexed) of the personal estate of Alexander Moorhead (d. 27 October 1859), late of Drumeel,  granted to John Moorhead his son:

http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014884/005014884_00121.pdf

... Possible Will Calendars entry for son John died 1896, probate to Anne the widow:

http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014911/005014911_00448.pdf

Just to add, the reported age of Alexander Moorhead of Drumeel at the time of his burial in 1859 was 88 and the reported age of John Moorhead of Drumeel at the time of his burial in 1896 was 91.

Thanks gaffy - yes I do think it is them ;)

I have a question that I am sure someone can answer regarding burials and obits circa 1900 Ireland.
We know Alexander's wife Ellen Kingston-Moorhead died 1905 Co.Cork.
The registration district Clonakilty, but more specifically Rosscarbery.

Would it have been probable that there would have been an Obituary for Ellen in the newspaper of that day and place?
Alexander was a Teacher, so an educated man one assumes but was the presence or absence of obits more because of monetary or simply it was not done in that time period?

I know, and thanks to a Rootschatter I have a copy, that Alexander had an Obit in 1944 ..

And secondly, how easy would it be to track down a grave in this area?
Just wondering if perhaps Ellen and her infant son who predeceased her would be buried with more of her Kingston family given that is where she was born?
Trying to get a handle on which Kingston Family Ellen belonged to!

Should I post on Co. Cork?

The childrens school records for 'Granard Mixed' (COI) National School are online.

Briefly, it says they have all started in the school in June 1908, their previous school being in Ardrahan Co Galway. They all leave in June 1914 with a note saying 'Gone to Ballina"
All have 'Granard' as their residence and Father's occupation listed as a 'N. Teacher'

Don't know if this is the same school their father is teaching at- 'Church Quarter' see Sinnan's post No 4. Time to pull out the maps !

Thanks hasta  great find :)

So, clearly he did indeed move for his job and to Ballina, Co. Mayo like I had found (he was there in 1924, 1925 as ships records from 3 of the four kids say so).  But interesting they seem to gravitate always back to Co. Longford.  So Alexander's home is where the kids thought of as home too...

Yes, I will see abt the trial ... last time I did they hook you but when you want to see those records oops...now they want you to really join  ;)
