Birth and a family for Alexander Moorhead born circa 1860 - Co. Longford
« on: Wednesday 06 April 16 04:24 BST (UK) »
Hi All

At the 'general' Ireland board I had a tremendous amount of help the last few days from some pretty great Rootschat members piecing together the 'adult life' of Alexander Moorhead.

Alexander Moorhead was a National Teacher.
He was married 3x - 1895, 1898, 1906 all in Co. Cork
Wife #1 and #2 each died ...
He had four children with Ellen Kingston (wife #2)

On the 1901 he and wife Ellen are living in Curraheen, Rosscarbery, Co. Cork - ALexander is age 41 born Co. Longford.
On the 1911 he and wife Elizabeth are in Church Quarter, Granard Urban, Co. Longford - Alexander is age 50 born Co. Longford

Alexander dies in 1944 in Moatfarrell, Co. Longford, buried Ballinalee Church Cemetery, and his age at death is listed as 84 ...

All these ages are consistent with a birth year for Alexander Moorhead of 1860.

I'd like to find the family in which Alexander came from - his parents and siblings....

Checked FamilySearch and Irishgenealogy but came up empty  :-\
Anybody find him?
WOODAGE (East London);
SPEAR (Laneast, Cornwall);
FRENCH (Rye/Hastings, Sussex);
PERCIVAL (Downe, Kent);
JARVIS (Houghton, Norfolk);
KING (Wortham,Suffolk- Hove, Sussex);
FLEMING(Logierait & Dowally, Perthshire);
LOVE (Ireland Co.?)

Knowing the father's name and occupation from one of the marriage records would help.  For the meantime, just to note until you can rule in or out, an Alexander Moorhead was born on 14 November 1859 and baptised on 5 February 1860 in the Church of Ireland in Clonbroney parish, his parents were  farmer John Moorhead and Anne Anderson from Drummeel. This couple also had a son Robert (b. 1862).

Familysearch shows a son John born 8 December 1864 and a daughter Jane Anne born 29 December 1867, also the marriage of John Moorhead to Anne Anderson on 30 December 1858, the fathers' names were Alexander Moorhead and Robert Anderson (Familysearch not working 100% correctly for me when I tried this morning, otherwise I would have posted the links, but they're easily found).

Griffiths Valuation shows an Alexander and Hugh Moorhead in the townland of Drummeel, the local print date is 1854:

No harm to have the name of the school in case records show up somewhere.
George lives close to the National School as you would expect, so his place of work is   Corran? National School.

1901 Alexander had lived in Rosscarbury National School but there is the word at the end?

And 1911 Churchquarter National School, again with a word at the end?

FTR

Alexander MOORHEAD married LINK to records
(1) Sept 05 1895 Margaret DONOVAN - one child
(2) Aug 23 1898 Ellen KINGSTON - five children
(3) Jul 10 1906 Bessie (Elizabeth) BAYLIE - ?

LINK to Civil Birth Records of Children

LINK to 1901 Census with second wife and their eldest child

LINK to 1911 census with third wife and four children from second marriage

LINK to Death Records of first wife Margaret and daughter Maggie Jane in 1896

LINK to Death Records of second wife Ellie and son James from second marriage

I don't see any children to the third marriage

On the 1901 census he has his nephew John J MOORHEAD living with the family
This implies most likely that he had a brother that was married in New York
This may be a place to look for a further marriage to prove a link

It would be unusual at that time to be his sister's child as to have the surname MOORHEAD she would either have been unmarried or married a man of the same surname

Wonder if this could be the nephew John J. Moorhead in 1901 living in Co. Longford 1911 with an uncle Joseph Burns- except birthplace given as Longford-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Longford/Edgeworthstown/Main_Street/585131
Note: can't see any sign of this John Moorhead in 1901 but here's the Burns family in 1901-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Longford/Edgeworthstown/Edgeworthstown/1551489

Added- John J. Moorhead born 28 July 1889 Manhattan (New York City)

If my possibility at reply #1 is relevant, then notice mention here of Letters of Administration (with the Will and one Codicil annexed) of the personal estate of Alexander Moorhead (d. 27 October 1859), late of Drumeel,  granted to John Moorhead his son:

http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014884/005014884_00121.pdf

A couple of Moor(e)head families in Drumeel in 1901, including Anne, daughter Jennie and grand son Robert D born New York:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Longford/Drummeel/Drummeel/1548620/

And an Anne as the mother-in-law in a Kenny family:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Longford/Drummeel/Drummeel/1548624/

Edited to add: Possible Will Calendars entry for son John died 1896, probate to Anne the widow:

http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014911/005014911_00448.pdf

Edited again to add:  A Will Calendars entry here for a John Moorehead of Drumeel died 1897, administration of the estate (with the will) granted to Catherine Kenny posted above in the census return:

http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014910/005014910_00152.pdf

So a couple of Drumeel John Moor(e)heads on the go, one died 26 February 1896 (probate to wife Anne), the other died on 5 January 1897 (administration to Catherine Kenny). Something to tease out, IF my reply #1 is relevant in the first place.
