Florence E Plumb wife of John Merry Plumb
« on: Thursday 07 April 16 01:37 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone has any definite records, copy of marriage certificate or other.
John M Plumb married Florence E Plumb  Jul-Sep 1916 registered Newmarket, Cambridgeshire Vol 3b page 1113. I believe this to be John Merry Plumb, who died 24 Jul 1917 in WW1 in Belgium. The Ancestry record of soldiers effects shows a widow Florence.
John Merry Plumb was born 1889 in Balsham to George Plumb and Jane Fuller. he enlisted in Mill Hill, Hendon area of London - I believe his family may have moved there after 1911.
I can't establish who Florence E Plumb was.
The Plumb family is very large and these aren't close relatives of mine so I didn't want to get a marriage certificate but wondered if anyone out there had a copy so that I could find out her father's name, witness names etc.
Thanks for reading this.

It's Florence K Plumb on the marriage registration.

Problem is we don't know if Plumb was her maiden name or a previous married name  :-\

Did they have a daughter in 1919?

CWGC entry says widow was Florence Emma Plumb

(Millipede - he died in 1917, so any daughter bn 1919 couldn't have been his)

This might be that one in 1901 - under Floria

but we don't know if it is the one that married John Merry. Really do need the marriage cert to ascertain her father, don't we?

Re: Florence E Plumb wife of John Merry Plumb, ? wife of Frederick Percy Harrap

Thanks for your replies.
Looking to see if she was a widow, I searched for all BMD marriages for Florence with surname blank 1905-1916 in Newmarket, spouse name blank, couldn't find any to a Plumb except for the John Merry Plumb marriage in 1916.
I'd missed the CWGC ref to Florence Emma - so thanks for that. Soldiers Effects just says Florence E.
The birth in 1893 in Newmarket looks promising, as does the census in 1901 in Fordham, which came  under Newmarket.
I agree the cemetery website for Lijssenthoek gives a lot of info you don't see elsewhere.
I found a death and probate record  for a Florence Emma Plumb born 1893, also electoral register entries 1936-1938 for 31 Landrock Rd Crouch End (very close to Mill Hill where John Merry Plumb enlisted in the army).
I thought I'd found her. There is also a burial at Whitton, Richmon upon Thames at the same time, but the address is different.
Then...unfortunately, I also found a marriage for Florence E Plumb in 1922, registered Edmonton, Middlesex to a Frederick Percy Harrap, electoral register entries 1927-1939 at 10 Albion Avenue, Muswell Hill area (very close to Mill Hill where John Merry Plumb enlisted in the army), and a death in 1967 registered Barnet for Florence E Harrap, born 1893.
I changed the title of this post to include the name Harrap in case anyone sees it.

Following on from your discovery there is a probate record for Frederick Percival Harrap of 10 Albion Avenue died 3 Aug 1944.  Admin to Florence Emma widow.

Also two possible children born in Edmonton **
