Where in Roscommon?
« on: Thursday 07 April 16 19:36 BST (UK) »
I am struggling to read this.

The bridegroom is from Tandragee, Armagh.
The bride is from ?????????, Roscommon.
They were married in a Presbyterian church in Down, so that doesn't help me!

I can't spot an obvious town or townland in Roscommon.  Can any keen-eyed Rootschatter help?

At a guess... Is it 'Deer Hamlet', Roscommon?

I found this in Google Books:

https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=JKr_AwAAQBAJ&pg=PA416&lpg=PA416&dq=hamlets+in+roscommon&source=bl&ots=fyXDUkjOC-&sig=nVniMlILt7b4_oeFZjJ88ESVRWg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjBt5uemP3LAhXMXRoKHZFnBqcQ6AEILTAE#v=onepage&q=hamlets%20in%20roscommon&f=false

I can't seem to shrink it in 'shrink links' on here, but it does have a list of the Hamlets in Roscommon if you have the patience to find it!

Many thanks for the link, Romilly.  Unfortunately, not all pages of the book are free to view, so I would have to buy it (for over £30) which is not feasible.  I tried searching for Deer Hamlet or Deerhamlet, but it returned no results.  I also tried Durhamlee just in case, but no luck.

Oh well, the search goes on!

You could try posting your query on the Irish Board on here. Someone with local knowledge might be able to help.

You might also find something on this Site:

Romilly.

Many thanks for your continued efforts, Romilly - I am very grateful for you taking time for this puzzle.  I will see if this can be moved to the Roscommon, Ireland board.
