« on: Friday 08 April 16 00:33 BST (UK) »
Find My Past are in the process of putting online British Royal Navy & Royal Marines Service and Pension Records, 1704-1919
Over 900,000 records to uncover previously unknown details of service with the Royal Navy or Royal Marines.
Another great resource.

Hi Seaweed,
Wonderful news. I am in the middle of tracing my G.G. Grandfather's Navy records.
Could I trouble you to glance at my posting on Armed Forces. Working up the courage to request
a free trial from Find My Past. Doesn't really feel right when I know I can't afford to join. Already on
Ancestry. Keep up your incredible work.
               Regards,
                 Netty Nz

Why not try it, they also offer some good deals for a £1 sometimes.

Under FindMyPast's terms and conditions we are not allowed to do look ups for others.

Any thoughts on how to identify a ref to a Lieutenant Pyne dating to 1800. He is referred to by a Capt Dashwood and sighted as mistreating men working on the sloop the Sylph. Possibe is a Robert Pyne who was pensioned in 1815 (aged c 43 at that stage). Find my past pension records have a series of entries against Robert Pyne listing his ship as the Pomone.

There was a Lieutenant Richard Croker Pyne who crops up in searches:

Thanks for that Shaun - he would be the right sort of vintage Rich Croker Pyne was a 'Master' by the time he married for a second time in 1809 - there seems to be three marriages for him , 1787, to Cecilia Byrne, 1809 to a Miss Pizzie and again in 1813 to Sarah Arnold.

These are Greenwich Hospital pension records, relating to naval ratings (seamen) and marines, not to officers.

Hi Seaweed, again many thanks for your services in relation to my grandfather and your visit to Kew.
I have a record from his father's time in the RN (also Army and MN) though I wonder if anyone could shed light onto the contents - I have an inkling that great grandfather Clark (seems he preferred the MN which he transferred to seemingly up to now without issue) did a runner as I found he served time in Bodmin which I expect to be related to this attachment.
The text will I am sure be obvious to navy folk but to me I am afraid it is guess work.

Best regards - Bryn
