Mountain Ash, Glamorgan. Paynes 1898
« on: Sunday 10 April 16 05:59 BST (UK) »
I believe Charlotte Payne (born 1833 in Aston Ingham) was buried in Mountain Ash in 1898. But the only likely record is for the death of Charlotte Bawn (age66) in Pontypridd  11a263  June 1898.  Could Payne have been transcribed as Bawn. Does anyone have access to burial records for Mountain Ash please?

I'm not seeing Charlotte in any census? ???

Did she marry, or was she known under another surname?

Well this is a long saga. In 1891 she was in Goucestershire (Nailbridge) with her husband . In 1892 June 4 she had an altercation with Eva Chivers in the Forest of Dean (Glouc Citizen). Her husband William Payne died in 1895.  5 of her children were in Mountain Ash by 1895: Henry born 1855, Florence Owen b 1877, William born 1873, Leonard born 1861, Emily John born 1870, so I presume she moved to Mountain Ash.  I think I have eliminated all other Charlotte Paynes (Pains) in UK.

Charlotte Bawn (age66) in Pontypridd  11a263  June 1898

Why not remove the doubt and apply for the document for your relative?

Have you looked for any sign of 'Charlotte Bawn' in any preceding censuses - just in case she does exist?

You have used the surnames of Payne/Paynes/Pains, what evidence of these spellings do you have?

You have used the name "Florence Owen" = Is that Florence Payne married surname "Owen" ?
You have used the name "Emily John" = Is that Emily Payne married surname "John"  ?

There is a "Charlotte Bawn (48y)" in Leavesden Asylum (1891)

FreeBMD has correctly transcribed the index sheet, typed as "Bawn".
The index sheet may be incorrectly created.

What was the maiden name of Charlotte (b1833)?
