Photographs of Gravestones
« on: Sunday 10 April 16 08:18 BST (UK) »
Good Afternoon Everyone

I live in Brisbane, Australia and was born in Gateshead.

Most of my family going back to 17th century are from the Gateshead & Chester-le-Street areas.

I have photos of every gravestone in St John's in Gateshead Fell but I am interested in St Joseph's of the same place and also St Mary's & St Cuthbert's in C-l-S.

Would anyone know if someone may be interested in photographing these cemeteries.

Regards

Chris

Chris, just joined the site and browsing post's related to Durham where I live,St Joseph's in
Gateshead has no attatched burial ground it's a city centre Church, burial's of Roman Catholic's
would have been in Gateshead East Cemetery and after 1905 also in Saltwell Cemetery.
St M&C in Chester Le Street had a large cemetery which is now cleared althogh a lot of old
stones line the wall's of the original Churchyard, post 1905 burial's were carried out in the new
Ropery lane cemetery,by co-incedence I have family in all four!
Regard's Steve.

Many thanks for the information, I didn't know any of that.

Thanks Steve

Its disappointing to hear news like that although I realise we need progress. That's the way it is unfortunately.

You mentioned earlier that you are looking to get your fam hist out of Co.Durham. Have you considered a DNA test? I have had one through FamilyTreeDNA and have found them to be good. 23andMe also seems to have a good rep.

My test uncovered all sorts of things that I otherwise would not have found.

Regards

Chris

Hi Chris,
not tried a DNA test might give it a go!I've got a big family connection to Gateshead my
Grandparent's came from two big families in Bensham and Saltmeadow's Dad was born there
but migrated a few miles south to Birtley after the war,his brother was killed at Dunkirk with
the 9th DLI(the Gateshead Gurkha's),also wider family member's drifted in and out ofthe town
over the year's,big changes in recent year's but the town's still very much in the shadow of
it's neighbour over the river.
Regard's Steve.
