Hi Sanda,
Yes I agree -wonder if the email address still active.  Would be great find a distant  cousin or uncle connected to my family research.

Janet Leitch & John McFarlane were my great-grandparents.
My Grandfather, Thomas Ross Craig married their youngest daughter, Catherine Ida McFarlane.

David Leitch seems to have been Janet's only sibling and immigrated later and settled in the Maxville area.

Hello,
Welcome to Rootschat - I see you have found my posting - regarding Janet Leitch.
I believe Janet Leitch was the daughter of Jean Henderson & Hugh Leitch.
Jean Henderson was the sister of my gtgtGrandfather.  I have done quite a lot of research on these families. The past few months I have been following Janet & David Leitch's families in Canada, has been quite interesting researching them, and their extended families.

Would be great to have contact with you and compare our research.

I can send you a Private Message(PM),with a contact email address, and we can take it from there - if you like.  However before I can send a PM you have to have posted 3 messages.  Just reply to this post  and then post another message  (doesn't have to be more than a few words).
Love the photo of Janet & John McFarlane.
I think we are cousins?? - will have to work it out.

Cheers
Sarra

Hello Sarra ..

It would be great to hear of your research and learn more about Janet's ancestors.

partial Letter from my Mother, Jean Helen Craig, dated 1991 .. she died Jan 18, 1997
. . . . . . . .
Now I’ll tell you about my mother’s family.  Janet Leitch was born in Paisley, Scotland.  She and John McFarlane lived in the same apartment building in Glasgow for two years before they met.  She was a gentle, caring person, he was a little man with a short temper.  They married and had a daughter, Agnes, in Scotland.  Then they came to Canada and settled in Martintown, in the house where Johnny McPhadden’s grandfather lived when you were there.  At that time it was a long house with one end facing the road (it was renovated when I was growing up).

With them came Janet’s brother, and the Leitch’s settled in Maxville.  (I spent whole weeks at a time there when I was little, they had at least 2 daughters and a son Henry who came home from the first World War and when he visited at our house he gave me a brass button from his tunic).  The two families were close though it meant horse-and-buggy.  I was taken to see my grand-uncle (maybe John too) on his deathbed
. . . . . .

Tim

Hello Tim,
You seem to have done quite a lot of researching on your family history.  Not too sure how much I will be able fill in for you regarding Janet's family.

However I'm happy to share what I have, and it will be great to compare our research.
You can put me on the right track if I have incorrect information.

I'm sure you have many stories to tell about your ancestors lives in Canada, and I would love to hear them.

If you just post another reply I will be able to send you a PM with my email address.

Hello Sarra ...
3rd time is the charm.

my mother's letter contains a number of errors.  But it's not surprising given that it was stories and oral traditions passed down through the eyes and ears of a child at that time.  But a lot of her story gives clues and direction to search for confirming documentation when things are in doubt.

When I do come across factual and surprising information I find myself wishing I could share it with my parents.  Did they know?  Would it be a pleasant surprise?  I can see the smile.

My Father's side of the family, the Hart's, came to Canada in 1760 when the British took Montreal, and then they settled in Trois-Rivieres.  Mainly Jewish, German, Dutch & English.
Three generations later a Scottish branch of Auldjo's, supplimented by Richardson's and Grants married into the Hart's.

My Mother's side of the family, the Craig's, were Scottish thru-and-thru coming to Eastern Ontario to the county of Glengarry in the early 1800's from Ayrshire and Irvine.  They also mixed in with UEL and my ancestry there is comprised of Frue's, Ross's, Urquhart's, Snider's (palatinate) and Westley's.

With six-degrees of separation we must certain have some common ground.

Hope to hear your stories.

Tim
