Help finding Thomas FEENEY b. abt 1821 Co. Sligo in the RC records
« on: Wednesday 13 April 16 02:43 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I have a Thomas Feeney who marries in a Roman Catholic Church in Canada in 1859.

He lists his father as Patrick Feeney and his mother as Hanna Donnelly
He indicates he was born Co. Sligo and the two censuses I can find him on (1861, 1871) his age puts his birth year about 1821.

There is a chance Thomas had a brother Michael and a brother Dominick too and both born in Co. Sligo in the 1820's as well. Although Michael lists same father's name on his marriage but a different mother so they may be 1/2 brothers or not brothers at all.

I suspect the variant spellings of the surname 'FEENEY' are not helping in my search for Thomas Feeney's baptism or his parents. Plus I did not have a parish location just Co. Sligo to work from  :-\

Anybody with fresh eyes able to pick up his trail?
Thanks

There's a Liverpool Feeney family John, Tommy, Bobby would now be in their 70's, their Dad worked in 'The Baggy' home was in the 'Bullring' aka Saint Andrews Gardens and probability is they lived in Liverpool's Irish enclave centered on Saint Albans Parish in Athol Street area just off Great Howard Street. I knew them in 1960's when they'd be in their early 20's to mid 20's.

Thanks etep and hallmark

Searching Ireland is a whole new game for me.
I am collecting up where to look and the resources available from all the great Rootschatters  ;)

As far as Thomas Feeney that is all I have ... no parish or townland.

I had just thought someone might have something on their radars as I am always amazed what people find with their skill sets.

Thanks again

Worth looking at RC registers to see if any Parishes have 1820 records.... then you will know which ones they are not at, reducing the possibles if you don't find them, or know Parish if you do find them.

http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0534  start late 1700's... so are they here?

Probably other Parishes have registers for the years you need. Keep a note of Parishes you have looked at so you will know some where they aren't.

thanks for the tips hallmark
If nothing else I will preserve and definitely keep track of where I have been and what I have looked at especially as far as Parish Registers (as those Registers are extremely hard on the eyes and get quite taxing to look at after an hour or two or three)!
To get that tiny bit of info on Thomas Feeney I slogged through over a dozen RC parish registers for two counties in Ontario and had all but given up when I found his marriage ... and it was a date after the birth of two of their children so I was not even seriously looking for the marriage but rather the baptisms for his children!

Yes, many can be taxing..... what I do is bookmark the page I finish at, then start from there next time.

Who knows.... you might even find Parent's marriage! You can enlarge/brighten/darken etc.

I find it handy to Zoom, then scroll down left hand side, then scroll over and scroll up right hand side, with date as cut off point.
