Alexander PRESTON in Berwickshire
« on: Thursday 14 April 16 16:28 BST (UK) »
I am trying to make contact with a Sharon Ewan : in connection with her GG Grandfather Alexander Preston b 1859 and appears to marry Jane Gibson from Coldingham. My Grandmother was a Jane Gibson , born 1877 but in Morpeth, where her father John Gibson was employed at that time, but his family all came from the Coldingham area and farmed at Burnhall between mid-1850s to mid 1870s. The Gibson families appear to have had little imagination regarding naming their Children as I have had the devil's own job establishing which child goes with which set of parents from around 1800 to 1850.

Alexander and Jane had 4 other children as far  as I can make out, John 1882: Alex 1883: Ellen 1885 : Mary 1887 and Richard G 1889, but I am unable to carry on the census after 1891. did they move to England or even further afield?
I would be interested to find out, and  any help would be most appreciated.

Hi

It's not very clear exactly what it is you are trying to establish.

Are you trying to establish whether Jane Gibson's father John was connected to the Jane Gibson who married Alexander Preston?

Clearly Jane Gibson b 1877 Morpeth is not the one who married Alexander Preston

No, I am trying to establish if the Jane Gibson who married into the Preston is a daughter of another branch of my Gibson family from Coldingham,
And to re-establish contact with Sharon Ewan, who sent me information concerning the Preston family, back in 2008.

Sorry for any confusion.

Did Sharon send you the info via a post on Rootschat or via another site as I can't find a post about Alexander with her name on it.

Might be quicker to download a copy of Alexander and Jane's marriage cert from Scotlands People to see who her parents were

Given the names of Alexander/Janes Children I would say this is likely her;

JANE Gibson Birth 17 April 1861, Coldingham, Berwick
Parents Alexander Gibson and Helen Addison

1871 her Father is a Hawker born c 1831 Dunse, Berwickshire

As CaroleW said downloading the M/C would confirm it.

Yes it does, have managed to print off a copy of the 1882 marriage certificate fro SP for Alexander PRESTON and Jane GIBSON.
Her Parents were Alexander Gibson and Helen Addison, and although I have Alexander in the Gibson family towards the later part of the 19th century, I do not have an Alexander at the start of 1820s. so it appears to be a co-incidence of name and location.

Thank you for all the assistance from everyone, and I shall close that line of query
