1939 Why would a name be in brackets?

This is confusing

Pringle Household
Felling U.D., Durham, England

Ada  Gunn (Pringle) 1892
William Pringle is also on this record

Ada Pringle(formerly Robson) 1892  & William Pringle 1886 were husband & wife......

Ada was before Marriage a Robson so I can't see where the Gunn comes in.

Gunn would be her married name - the marriage taking place after the register was taken.  These records were kept updated until (I think) the 1990s.

Applying logic the answer is clear - William Pringle died sometime after the register was taken, and Ada re-married ( as c-side has pointed out).

The proof of this can easily be found on freeBMD.

After a childless 1st Marriage Ada remarried in 1954 at the age of 62. Joseph Gunn....The add ons are great.
