I'm a little confused - not difficult in my case  :)

Do you mean that the person you are looking for was an Indian living in England, Wales, Channel Isles or the Isle of Man (the only areas covered by the 1911 Census on Ancestry), or that he was serving overseas?

Oops - just found that overseas military were included, but haven't the foggiest how to find them, sorry  :-[
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

It appears to come under "England".  I can see 2905 pages!  Perhaps just enter his name?  :-\

Go to the 1911 English Census and "Browse this Collection"

Thank you again, Stan. Sorry for the misunderstanding, BumbleB. I try to be very clear about what I'm asking for, but I thought it was common knowledge that the British Army in India was included in the 1911 census. :D I have a great uncle who is supposed to be in Quetta in the South Lancs. Regiment in 1911.
Best wishes,
Joan

No problems, Joan.  I did say I'm easily confused, and I didn't know that the British Army was included (never had to look!).  Just proves you learn something new every day, and Stan is always a great fount of knowledge.  ;D ;D
