Hi again, if the Elizabeth R b c 1875 in 1881 is the one who at least had an illegitimate son George Thomas Haycock,  then her baptism was:-

Elizabeth Rebecca Haycock 27th September 1874 Much Wenlock Father John occ Carpenter Mother Harriet

She married an Alfred James Bagley,  this looks to be her in 1901 census :-

James Alfred Bagley 27 b Broseley
Elizabeth Rebecca 26 b Much Wenlock
Ethel Gertrude 4 b Manchester
Harriet Mary 3 b Manchester
Gladys May 0 b Manchester
Residing Grosvenor Street, Prestwich, Manchester
Census ref RG13/3769/125/27

In 1891 she is Rebecca Haycock aged 16 b Much Wenlock
Census ref RG12/2101/11/16

That could explain why Edith and George were with grandparents in 1901 - possibly there as their mother had just had a baby. We don't know that they were actually living there, just that they were there on census night.

Could that be where the James on the marriage certificate came from? Not her biological father, but the man who brought her up?

;D I am also thinking Elizabeth Rebecca is the mother of Edith, only problem is at present no baptism like George Thomas ( As a matter of interest was held privately)  or a nailed on birth registration on Freebmd?

;D Hi from your PM. ( Should have been really posted so all can see)! " Held privately " I would suggest was only in the presence of Elizabeth and the cleric carrying out the baptism,  in the case of both Edith & Elizabeth in Madeley births,  cannot locate with full name?
