Two Marriage records? Why? Pulson-Ferguson

My ancestor, Mary Pulson, christened 20 May 1820, St. Mungo, Dumfries, Scotland, according to parish records married James Fergueson, Sep 1843, St. Mungo, Dumfries, Scotland.     James is listed as the son of George Fergueson.   The surname is actually Ferguson. 
    Also, there is an existing christening record for Sarah Little Ferguson, 29 October 1843, St. Mungo, Dumfries, Scotland, daughter of James Ferguson and Mary Puelson.   
    AND a second marriage record exists from Dryfesdale, Dumfries, Scotland for a marriage between James Ferguson and Mary Pulson on 27 August 1843.   I don’t know if fathers are listed on this record.   
    My question is…do you think these are all the same people?   It would seem so, but I don’t know how to explain two marriage records in the same county. His church and her church?   Any input would be appreciated.

Just found evidence of my own question.  Their son, also has two marriage records. One in St. Mungo and one in Dryfesdale.  Can anyone give me a reason why they would do this?

It is possible that you have records of the calling of the Banns prior to the actual marriage. If the bride and groom were from different parishes the Banns had to be called in both parishes.

Hi, Had this situation myself. People from different parishes had to post banns in both, the parish where they married would have the ministers details and date of actual wedding on it. If you have statutory birth certificates of any children who are born after 1855 (if this applies) it should give a date of parents marriage. :)

Hi, just read the dates and this is an addition to my reply, of course you won't have birth certificates of children born over a hundred years later, lol. But they still had to post banns in different parishes. The date of the wedding should still be recorded on the parish record from whichever parish they actually married in. Also you might find an account of fees recorded by the minister. :)
