So am I correct in assuming that Dennnison is Henry's correct surname but the father William on the marriage records is actually stepfather William McKay?

I'm not sure at this point!

It certainly looks as though he's used William McKay's occupation on the 1878 marriage.

If Rosie is correct and that is him marrying in 1870 as well then it looks as though he's put down the occupation of his brother (William a joiner.).

Tough crowd to chase. :)

What we know about Manasseh  ;D

1841 has him as 12 living with his mother Mary and siblings.

1847 he marries Eliza Sherer

26 Oct 1849 he was in the 7th Foot (until 1855 )

24 Sept 1850 Henry son of Manasseh & Eliza was born

1851 we believe Eliza was living with William M*cKay as his wife

1861 Manasseh is 'married'  to Elizabeth Fieldhouse (Fieldhouse children also there )

Mannaseh Dennison of the 7th Foot (Royal Fusiliers) was my G x 4 (I think... lose track of how many generations back he was!) Grandfather.

The reason for his short service in the Army is that he was wounded at the Battle of the Alma during the Crimean War and was subsequently discharged.
