Can anyone date the coat of arms on this locket?
« on: Thursday 21 April 16 10:25 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone could date this locket for me please, by its coat of arms?? Maybe even where it hails from???
There has been some discussion about it on the Handwriting, Deciphering and Recognition forum and one person kindly suggested I try here for a date.
Thanks.

They are the Royal Arms as used by The Government.

The personal arms of the monarch are topped by a helm and crest; the Government replaces this with a crown.
Also, the arms are not on a shield, but are contained within the garter (of the Order of the Garter)

After 1837, as there is no fleur-de-lys, or an escutcheon representing Hanover.

The shape of the crown suggests it is Victorian.  In the 20th century a different style seems to have been used.

If the locket is silver, you may find a hallmark or some identifying mark inside (under the photo?)

The ivy wreath could symbolise eternity, constancy, fidelity, friendship (everlasting love?).

All the best.
