More likely to be Peterhead prison for a sentence of that kind, I think.

Thank you. Yes that occured to me last night when I was looking at the map. Apparently at Peterhead Prison the hard labour involved breaking and transporting granite at the Stirling Hill Quarry. If I get to Registers I will probably start there.

Peterhead was built specifically for prisoners with that kind of sentence - for a good while prior to its opening Scottish prisoners serving penal servitude sentences were sent to England. The location of the crime, family etc did not play any part in where a sentence would be served.
