Chatsworth, Derbyshire
« on: Friday 22 April 16 16:19 BST (UK) »
Hi.

I have an ancestor, John Harrison, who, according to 1851 Census, was born 'c1786/87, Chatsworth, Derbyshire'.

I was wondering if anyone might have an idea where he would have been Baptised.

His Burial Record implies he was born c1794/95, but I am inclined to think the earlier date is more likely to be the right one.

Thanks, Eric.

The little village of elscar is closely associated with chatsworth, I cannot see a John Harrison there, but I do wonder if chatsworth is a mistranscription of Charlesworth, just outside glossop, nearer to Hulme in Manchester.

The original image does indeed seem to read as "Derbyshire, Chatsworth"?

Surely the church associated with Chatsworth is Edensor?

Yes. He is the one in Hulme.

Sadly, I've only got the 1841 & 51 Censuses and his burial to go on.  The children I've identified all show as born Manchester, so no clues there.

Charlesworth is interesting- not too far away.

Thanks

Interestingly, there are a few Baptisms in Glossop.

2 at Charlesworth, Glossop St Mary's Ind Chapel: 21 Jun 1789 & 20 Sep 1790.

Plus quite a few others at Glossop Parish Church around that time, so maybe it could be Charlesworth.

Hi

I have a Samuel Harrison (4xgg) born Charlesworth 1797. His Father is also a Samuel Harrison. Wonder if they were brothers.

Maybe.

Seems to have been a few Harrisons in the area, so I would imagine they're related somehow.

Did Samuel have any connection to the Manchester area?
