Do me one more favour Claire, I've tried to find a ref. to John Hatfull in regard to the paddle steamer Princess Alice. I did find articles on the tragedy in 1878 but no ref. to John, could you send a link or similar? Thanks again, Keni

Hi Keni,

I have access through my public library. But there is a site, although it is a subscription site, if you join you do get 3 free pages to start.

Interestingly, there is a John Hatfull on this database being sent to Maidstone prison for neglecting support for his wife and children. Wonder if this is the same man from post 2.

The Wreck of the Princess Alice is also there, it's only a short paragraph of John's witness statement, but it puts meat on the bones, doesn't it  :)

Interested in this because I have a Maria Hatfull born 1843 Peckham in my tree.  I believe she was the daughter of Samuel Henry Hatfull and Maria Thomas.  She married James Adams which is where the link starts.

Hiya, yes, Maria Hatfull, born in Newington May 24 1843, parents Samuel Henry Hatfull & Maria (May) Thompson, not Thomas. Siblings, Samuel, William, Esther, Ann, Robert, John Albert, Florence and Alice.
Maria married James Adams in Camberwell March 6 1877, she died May, 1911. Please let me know if you have a connection to the Hatfulls. Keni

My link is too James Adams, who is a distant cousin, so Maria is on as a wife and because it was such a lovely name I did a bit more research :-)
