McGivern family, Blackwatertown,Moy, Co Armagh
« on: Sunday 24 April 16 22:12 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to find information on the McGivern family of Blackwatertown, Moy.
Some of the family were adopted or fostered about the 1920's, there was Kathleen who was born 1920, Sarah and Fred. There was an older sister Susan born 1900, married Edward Cranney in 1921 and sttled in Derrycaw.
Kathleen married Thomas Leckey and settled in Banbridge. I'm trying to find out who their parents were and why they had been put into care, not sure if both parents had died.
Fred was in the merchant navy and I think he may have settled in England. Think there was other children as well.
All help would be much appreciated

You've posted on DOWN board yet Blackwater, Moy and Derrycaw are all in Co. Armagh.

If Susan was born c1900 and Kathleen in 1920 then there were possibly quite a few children in between.

Susan's 1921 marriage certificate should list her father's name and occupation which might help finding details of her parents. I can't find a likely entry for Susan in 1901 or 1911-

Searching through several databases given the following-
Susan McGivern, daughter of James, married 11 Sept.1921 (Banbridge district) to Edward Cranny.

The only Fred McGivern I can find in 1911 census is the son of Joseph in Belfast (born 12 Dec.1905  Belfast district, mother- McIntyre)

Added- meant to mention earlier that Kathleen's birth certificate will list names of both parents.

HI,
This may help. On 11 Nov 1896 James McGivern married Kathleen Connor in Loughbrickland Roman Catholic Church, Banbridge. Susan and Edward Cranny were also married in Loughbrickland R.C. Church. However there was another marriage of a James McGivern in Loughbrickland R.C.Church on 9 Aug 1900 to Hannah kennedy.

This looks to be the family of the above couple-

Hi,
Was wondering is there any way that I can transfer this information to the Co Armagh Board please.

Just click on 'report to moderator' and asked for the whole thread to be moved to ARMAGH board.
