Marion Wilson b 1846 Falkirk, Stirlingshire

In the 1861 Scotland Census (Holytown, Bothwell, Lanark) Marion Wilson was recorded as a Niece living in the household of Robert A Russell (Head) and Marion Russell (Mother) but her birthplace was recorded as Falkirk, Stirling. In Ancestry her surname was transcribed as KILSON but in FamilySearch it has been transcribed as WILSON.

I have had no luck in trying to find out where she fits in the family. On Marion Russell's Death Registration her mother's maiden name was recorded as NELSON.

For ref - Is Marian Wilson/Kilson listed as Marian Russell in 1851 living in Barony?  A child of one of Thomas and Marian's children??

Thanks Kay.  I had completely forgotten about Marian Russell the grandchild living with grandparents in 1851 Census.  I have searched ScotlandsPeople for her birth but nothing 'jumps out' as being her birth.

I can't see anything either, even with just the first name as Marian and no surname.    As it was pre statutory registration maybe she was not baptised??

As she has two different names in the different censuses, and living with her grandparents/uncle, she is almost certainly illegitimate. The Kirk Session minutes, if they have survived, may shed some light on her. It's quite common for the baptisms of illegitimate children not to be in the parish register.

Also, of course, as she was listed as 5 in 1851 and 15 in 1861, she is three times more likely to have been born in 1845 than in 1846.

Thanks Forfarian, I was thinking the same thing. Marion's mother probably married a Wilson. I will search the FamilySearch catalogue to see what there is available.
