Taylor Family ,Linton by Ross
« on: Tuesday 26 April 16 08:39 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Can someone help please,
I have reached a brick wall.
William Taylor  born 1817, Linton, parents are Joseph and Sarah Taylor nee Cooper. Christening.

Marriage of William in 1841, states that his parents are Thomas and Celia Taylor nee Fishpool.
Thomas and Celia  had a child  John in 1817, Linton.   Both John and Thomas appear on the 1851 census, Thomas is listed has a widower.living with Joseph and Sarah.

Can't find any  1841 census  for Joseph or Thomas,  but they are both in the 1851 census, as Joseph, born c1781 Oxenhall and Thomas born c1771  Oxenhall,  Looking for parents, for Joseph and Thomas.

Any info much appreciated.

Hi

It's probably me, but I am a bit confused.

Is this not more likely to be the marriage of William in 1841?
Father is Joseph to match the baptism you have?

Copy & paste removed , please transcribe copyright material.

Marriage 6th June 1841
William Taylor / Sarah Davis
grooms occupation ,labourer
grooms residence , Linton
grooms father , Joseph Taylor , labourer
brides residence , Linton
brides father , William   Davis , hurdle maker

pcjr,

Perhaps if you do as mazi suggests and try The Forest of Dean Family History Trust site.  There are many people there, with local knowledge, who are willing to help.

From the marriage transcription I note that the father of Sarah Davis is a Hurdle Maker. Joseph & Sarah's son John is a Hurdle Maker on the 1851 Census. Coincidence? Or taught by his grandfather?

"Thomas and Celia  had a child  John in 1817, Linton.   Both John and Thomas appear on the 1851 census, Thomas is listed as a widower living with Joseph and Sarah".

John is shown as the son of Joseph & Sarah, not the son of Thomas.

Age is a little out as born circa 1827 on census, but a possible for John?

Baptism 9th April 1825
John Taylor
Father Joseph
Mother Sarah
Residence , Gorstley
Parish Chapel , Linton

You appear to have mixed up two families which has served to muddy the waters  :'(

So far I haven't found baptisms for Joseph or Thomas on the FoD site, sorry to say.
